"Mad Max: Fury Road," "Carol" Lead 2015 CFCA Nominations

The Chicago Film Critics Association announced their 2015 nominations this morning and George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road" and Todd Haynes' "Carol" led the pack with seven and six nominations, respectively. Both films were nominated for Best Picture, joined by "Inside Out," "The Revenant" and "Spotlight."

As they always do, the CFCA made a few unique, surprising choices, including Adam McKay for Best Director ("The Big Short"), Jason Segel for "The End of the Tour," Sam Elliott for "Grandma," and two Supporting Actress nominations for Jennifer Jason Leigh (for "Anomalisa" and "The Hateful Eight"). Josh Mond's "James White" picked up awards season steam with nominations for both Christopher Abbott and Cynthia Nixon, while Joshua Oppenheimer's "The Look of Silence" scored nominations in both Best Foreign Language Film and Best Documentary. The winners will be announced on Wednesday night live during an awards dinner via Twitter @chicagocritics.

Roger Ebert was on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Film Critics Association. RogerEbert.com Managing Editor Brian Tallerico is the Vice President of the CFCA. Publisher Chaz Ebert, Assistant Editor Nick Allen, and Assistant Editor Matt Fagerholm are members, as are contributors Peter Sobczynski, Collin Souter, Erik Childress, Sergio Mims, Mark Dujsik, Patrick McGavin and Tasha Robinson.
