Cinephilia continued to witness the power of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” as the George Miller-directed sequel won big from this year’s Chicago Film Critics Association awards. The winners were announced last night at a private dinner in the city, attended by members of the association and esteemed figures of the Chicago film community. “Mad Max: Fury Road” ran off with five accolades from the night: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Production Design.
In other categories, “Room” proved to be another favorite of the year, receiving two awards, for Best Actress (Brie Larson) and Most Promising Performer (Jacob Tremblay). Continuing the association’s history of some very curious (but exciting) choices, other winners included Alicia Viklander for “Ex Machina” (Best Supporting Actress), Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Revenant” (Best Actor) and Benicio Del Toro for “Sicario” (Best Supporting Actor).
