"Life Itself" Among Best Documentary Nominees at the Gotham Awards

"Life Itself," Steve James's acclaimed documentary about the life and legacy of iconic film critic Roger Ebert, has received its first major nomination of the 2014 awards season. The film has been nominated by the Gotham Independent Film Awards in the Best Documentary category. Other nominees in the category are Robert Greene's "Actress," Laura Poitras's "CITIZENFOUR," Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez's "Manakamana" and Marshall Curry's "Point and Shoot."

Richard Linklater's audacious, widely praised drama, "Boyhood," earned the most nominations with four nods including Best Picture. Films also vying for the top prize are Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "Birdman," Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," Ira Sachs's "Love Is Strange" and Jonathan Glazer's "Under the Skin." 

Winners will be announced at the official ceremony Monday, December 1st, at 6:30pm at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. The full list of nominees will soon be posted at the Gotham Awards site.
