Whadda you feel like doin', Marty?

From John Keefer:

I just saw "Marty" [Best Picture Oscar winner of 1955, starring Best Actor Ernest Borgnine] the other day for the first time in what I think are the best of circumstances. I moved into a new apartment and was by myself and noticed "Marty" was a free On Demand movie. I'd heard good things and it's a classic, so I decided to watch. I was moved almost to tears and was glad that it was recognized as best picture. Admittedly I don't know what the other contenders were that year. But it made me glad a small film about a lonely guy working towards the big move to adulthood would be recognized by the Academy. I was wondering if there would be a great movie review in the works.

Editor's Note: "Marty" won four Oscars in 1955, including Best Picture, Actor (Ernest Borgnine), Screenplay (Paddy Chayefsky -- later a winner for "The Hospital" and "Network") and Delbert Mann. Joe Mantell and Betsy Blair were nominated for their supporting performances, and the film earned two other nominations for cinematography and art direction.
