I agree with you entirely that “Crash” deserved the win and that all of the films were truly gems this year. My personal feeling as to why “Crash” won is the nature and structure of the film, in conjunction to the Academy honoring Robert Altman, the master of the ensemble-cast, interweaving-plot type of film. “Crash” evoked memories of “Nashville“, “Short Cuts“, and even “Pret-a Porter,” but also was very similar to PT Anderson’s “Magnolia“.
