Shoot the can opener

From Roberta Kendall, San Jose, CA:

Roger I'm a great fan of yours, but I have to disagree with a comment you make in the review of "Vengeance Is Mine". You say, "…[he] flies into a frenzy when he cannot find the can opener. He was not angry with his victim, but the can opener makes him furious because it cannot be killed." Serial killers are psychopaths; they are able to kill because they have no empathy with – or remorse for – their victims. Although I haven't seen the movie, my take on the reason for his frenzy is this: he can't show his feelings with people, however he CAN show them with an inanimate object, such as a can opener Serial killers have always fascinated me; I'd be interested in what a mental health professional has to say about the subject.
