Chaz Ebert to Honor Documentarians This Weekend at Diverse Voices in Docs 2014 Graduation

THIS WEEKEND, on Sunday, October 5th, the University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St., will be welcoming graduating fellows from Diverse Voices in Docs, a professional development and mentorship program for documentarians of color, a collaboration between Kartemquin Films and the Community Film Workshop. The three-hour, free public event kicks off at 6pm with a keynote address from RogerEbert.com publisher Chaz Ebert, followed by a screening of excerpts from films currently in production created with the support of the program.

Members of the 2014 graduating class are Jeff Baraka, Cathena Evans, W. Joelle Gonzalez-Laguer, David D. Grace, Stephen Hatch, Thavary Krouch, Bing Liu, Esau Melendez, Bryant Monteilh, Noel Occomy, Ife Olatunji, Lourdes Ortega, John Owens, Anuradha Rana, Toni Reed, Anton Seals, Kamau Tyehimba, Samuel Vega and Lajwanti Waghray. The Academy for Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has increased its funding for the program in 2015 in light of its success this year.

Applications for the 2015 program will be available at the event, which also serves as a networking opportunity for Chicago filmmakers, both veteran and up-and-coming. Deadline for applications is Friday, December 12th.
