I’m disturbed by this nasty anti-consumer square-off between Sony’s Blu-Ray and Toshiba’s HD-DVD to be king of high-definition DVDs. Both have tried to prevent 1080p versions of movies with their technology and they are working hard to limit the ability of people with older HDTV’s to see true high resolution. In some cases they are blocking the ability of consumers to output analog video and audio.
We, who are normally early adopters, are going to stand on the sidelines and we hope both of these technologies fail and a third, better standard, emerges. Too bad the Best Buys, Circuit Cities of the world, and others, aren’t refusing to carry any of this stuff. Once again, the consumer pays and is preyed upon by these vultures. Beta vs. VHS, DIVX, RCA SelectaVision — when will they learn? Sony’s Blu-Ray won’t even support their own SACD (Super Audio CD) high-resolution audio! It’s nuts!
