From Stanley Farb, Somerset, NJ:
My wife and I have long been fans and followers of your advice. We are almost agree with your film commentary. But I must take exception with your praise for “The American.” With your review and George Clooney’s acting/directing, we were expecting a quality film. Aside from the scenery and the nudity, this film, IMHO, was abysmal. A slow, plodding story (I hesitate to glorify it with the word plot ) with almost no significant dialogue, and such improbable scenarios as assemblage of a high quality, precision weapon with a few crude tools and some used car parts added to our disappointment.
Our bleak view was endorsed by a number of other patrons as we left the theatre. I shall continue to follow your advice, but I felt compelled to express my divergent view on this film.
