I totally agree with your comments about “Crash.” I have seen both films and appreciated both as fine movies, but felt “Crash” was superior. I can’t understand why the Academy can feel the same; yet be labeled as “homophobes”. Obviously, “Brokeback Mountain” was about two homosexuals, but for me (a heterosexual woman), it went beyond “a gay story.” Should we honor a film just because it is about homosexuals? Should we honor an actor or actress just because they are black or Jewish? It would seem to dishonor the film, to give it the Best Picture award, just because it is about gays.
