Earlier version of 'Eight Below'

From: Sharon Fummerton, Canada

You are probably already aware of this, but in 1983, this true story [told in "Eight Below"] was told in Koreyoshi Kurahara's film "Antarctica." In that one, dogs did die, and I wondered at the time if the lives of some of the dog 'actors' had been sacrificed in the making of the film. I could not watch parts of it; I had to get up and leave the room. I'm a pushover for animals. Just ask my cat.

I have the film score for this movie, by Vangelis, and that's where I learned who directed it.

Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert was the film critic of the Chicago Sun-Times from 1967 until his death in 2013. In 1975, he won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism.
